Set in the extensive and beautiful Ecclesall Woods, the J.G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre is named after the Sheffield philanthropist who helped Sheffield Corporation (now the City Council) purchase Ecclesall Woods in 1927.
The centre has a striking contemporary design crafted from wooden materials that blend with the natural landscape and is the perfect indoor/outdoor facility for a wide variety of events and is also available to hire.
It is also a great place from which to start a visit to Ecclesall Woods, with information about the woods and a variety of free resources available from the main building.
The Woodland Coffee Stop is also on hand providing refreshments, light bites and cake.
There’s a host of activities taking place in the woods and at the centre. The Woodland Toddler Group, Growtheatre, health walks and ‘Wood Run’ take place weekly.
In school holidays The Wildlife Trust run Wildplay activity sessions and Grow Theatre run Grow Theatre family adventures.
Ecclesall Woods craft courses are based at the Woodland Discovery Centre and teach a wide range of skills from green woodworking, felling and coppicing, willow weaving, carving and soap making.
Each year the site hosts seasonal events including Spring In The Woods, Fungi and Pumpkin trails and a Christmas makers shop.
The Sheffield Beekeepers’ Association is based here and their honey can be purchased from the café.
