    The Launch of the Sheffield Heritage Open Days booklet took place at the Famous Sheffield Shop in Ecclesall Road, on Wednesday 24th August at 6.30pm, entertained by the Handbell Ringers of Knowle Top Chapel, Stannington. The Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Anne Murphy spoke about the importance of local people being committed to land and buildings which help to tell the story of this City and to preserve the evidence of the crafts and skills for which it is famous.

    A pivotal moment in Sheffield’s sporting history is brought back to life in a few week’s time.

    The city staged no less than four matches in the 1966 World Cup – three group games and a quarter final, all at Hillsborough.

    England went on to win the Wembley final with Sheffield’s own Gordon Banks in goal.

    The 50th anniversary of the city’s role in this historic championship is set to celebrated in ‘Football’s Coming Home’ which is unveiled on July 1st.

    The five-week exhibition will transform The Moor Market and celebrate life on the streets of the Steel City in the year that changed football history in England.
