Sheffield makes me feel like I’ve found my calling, my people and my true home.
Sheffield inspires the development of one of the fastest growing sports in the world. From the roots of UK rock climbing in the 1880s, through to creating the routes for the inaugural climbing event at the Olympic Games 2020. We are 'home' for the originators of the sport, current Team GB Climbing athletes, designers and manufacturers, making us the Climbing Capital of the UK.
Sheffield’s authentic and independent spirit is reflected in its retail and there are several areas of the city where clusters of independent shops have grown to become quirky shopping districts in their own right.
Head straight out to the UK’s only inner-city mountain bike trail at Parkwood Springs, take in some big views and berms at Lady Cannings Plantation or venture north to Sheffield's Greno Woods for some technical trails through the trees. Beyond the city boundary, a whole network of trails and bridleways will take you into the heart of the stunning Peak District National Park.
Five Sheffield businesses have made it onto prestigious lists compiled by Tech Climbers, recognising the top-performing IP-rich, product-led tech businesses driving innovation in dynamic and expending regions across the UK.
A round up of Pride events celebrating Sheffield's LGBTQ+ communities taking place in June and July 2024.
