Canoeing and SUPing in The Outdoor City

Sheffield is the perfect city from which to go canoeing, stand up paddle boarding (SUPing) or kayaking. Rivers, canals and lakes around the city are all easily accessible and offer a whole range of different opportunities to get out on the water.

South Yorkshire Sailing Club

South Yorkshire Sailing Club are based at Underbank Reservoir, Stocksbridge, in the north of Sheffield. The reservoir provides around 80 acres of sailing area. Sailing on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. New members are always welcome.

Awesome Walls Climbing Centre Sheffield

Awesome Walls Sheffield was the first ever climbing centre to be awarded 'National Performance Centre' status by the British Mountaineering Council. They're proud to provide the biggest climbing walls encompassing the widest variety of angles and styles of climbs for their customers and the greater climbing community across the UK.

Rother Valley Golf Centre

Rother Valley Golf Centre is ideally located next to Rother Valley Country Park on the border between South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The M1 and M18 motorways help provide easy and convenient access from the nearby towns/cities of Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Doncaster.

Bouldering at Stanage

Whilst originally made famous for its traditional climbs, the boulders that sit beneath Stanage Edge are packed with a quality and history all of their own.

TRIBE Bushcraft Centre

TRIBE is a Bushcraft and Outdoor Skills centre located in ancient woodland on the South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire border within easy reach of Sheffield.

Wortley Golf Club

Wortley Golf Club is a picturesque parkland course set in the tranquil, natural woodland surrounds of the historic Wharncliffe Estate. The club was founded in 1894 and to this day remains a unique oasis of peace, set against a backdrop of the pleasant sights and sounds of nature. Wortley is undoubtedly a hidden gem amongst the golf courses of South Yorkshire. Here you will find a traditional golf club with a truly modern outlook. 

Aqua Park

Try out the “Total Wipeout” style Aqua Park (inflatable outdoor water assault course) in Rother Valley Country Park. Complete with huge inflatable slides, trampoline, inflatable climbing wall, runways and of course the blast bag. 

J G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre

Set in the extensive and beautiful Ecclesall Woods, the J.G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre is named after the Sheffield philanthropist who helped purchase the woodland in 1927 and is the perfect indoor/outdoor venue for a wide variety of events.

Ringinglow Archery & Target Sports Centre

Ringinglow Archery & Target Sports Centre overlooks the picturesque Mayfield Valley in South West Sheffield, close to the border of the Peak District National Park.  They offer a range of fun and exciting target sports including archery, crossbow shooting, air rifle shooting, air pistol shooting, axe throwing, knife throwing and catapults.

Sheffield Cable Waterski and Aqua Park

The Inflatable Aqua Park assault course at Rother Valley, is one of the biggest in the UK and is great fun for all ages from 8 years. Wipe out on the inflatable walkways and bones, jump from the climbing wall, bounce on the trampolines and get fired up into the air from the Blast Bag!

The Foundry Climbing Centre

The Foundry Climbing Centre in Sheffield was the UK's first dedicated indoor climbing centre. Opened in 1991 it was designed, by climbers, to suit everyone from beginner to expert. It offers walls up to 13m high and lead/top rope climbs with 150 routes and bouldering. Full instruction available and open to any competent climber. Walls suited to beginners through to advanced.

Trail Advantage MTB Skills Coaching and Guiding

Trail Advantage deliver MTB sessions in Sheffield and the Peaks, giving access to a huge variety of coaching environments from the green suburbs and parks, and into the open moors and edges of the Peak District.

The Climbing Hangar

An outstandingly good facility, The Hangar comes equipped with a gym, shop, changing rooms and bike racks, cafe selling homemade pizza and craft beer, a Tokyo Olympics replica wall, and generally a really nice space to hang out in and climb.

Depot Climbing Centre

Depot Climbing Sheffield is one of the biggest bouldering centres in the UK, situated just off the Parkway, close to the city centre. Bouldering is a form of climbing that involves climbing short routes over safety matts below, making it the most accessible form of rock climbing.

In a lot of cities you have to chuck your bike on a roof rack or get on a train to get some decent cycling in. ERF - Spotlight On

The Economic Recovery Fund (ERF) ran between February 2021 and April 2025. It was a unique, innovative grant fund that aims to support local economic recovery in local high streets by empowering local groups of businesses to implement changes themselves.

Mountain biking

Head straight out to the UK’s only inner-city mountain bike trail at Parkwood Springs, take in some big views and berms at Lady Cannings Plantation or venture north to Sheffield's Greno Woods for some technical trails through the trees. Beyond the city boundary, a whole network of trails and bridleways will take you into the heart of the stunning Peak District National Park.

Sheffield high streets to receive £865,000 investment
