Printing in the Woods

17 Oct 2026 09:30 - 15:30

Join Jenny Coats, for a relaxing day of lino printing in the beautiful surroundings of Ecclesall Woods. As autumn transforms the woodland with rich colours, textures and patterns, you’ll gather inspiration directly from nature before learning how to design, carve and print your own unique lino prints.

Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or looking to develop your creative skills, this workshop offers a welcoming space to slow down, connect with nature and enjoy the satisfaction of creating by hand.

All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with your own collection of prints inspired by the beauty of the season. Jenny Coats uses techniques that can be easily replicated at home so this is the chance to learn a skill which you can continue.

You can see examples of Jenny Coats' work here.

What to expect:

You will visit the woods to collect images and sketches. You’ll then learn to trace these onto soft lino, carve and run a simple first print. You’ll be introduced jigsaw and two-layer printing techniques incorporating more than one colour. You may want to return to the woods to collect further ideas. Finally, you’ll have the opportunity to put all of your learning together to create a final print. You’ll look at how layers can be added to create a really effective final run of prints which you will print to quality paper ready to be editioned.

What’s included:

  • All materials and tools
  • Your own sketchbook to keep
  • Tea, coffee & biscuits throughout the day
  • An invitation to develop a new practice in a supportive group
  • A calm, inspiring space to explore traditional techniques
