Dark Academia: Freshers at Showroom

Sheffield is a city that loves film, and Showroom Cinema has been at the heart of it for over thirty years, with a unique programme of indie features, classics, and special events. Plus, with their free CINE26 membership for 16 – 26 year olds, students can access the best value tickets – just £6 for most screenings!

This year, to welcome Freshers through the Showroom doors, their in-house programming team have selected some of the best coming-of-age tales set in schools, colleges and universities – both the light and the dark sides of academia – from Bottoms' all-girl fight-club to Saltburn’s twisted friendships.

All are welcome, but Freshers are invited to join the Showroom Cinema for activities, meet-ups and craft sessions around the films to make new friends and learn how not to behave in your new era...

Plus, plenty more films are specially programmed to appeal to the newest arrivals, including brand-new coming-of-age comedy Extra Geography, a Black History Month special of Sinners, and the truly dark-academia-coded Sense and Sensibility.
