Roco Creative Co-op celebrated its second anniversary in style in November as it hosted the European Creative Hubs Network’s ‘We Are Next’ Creative Hub Forum.

Andrea Burns, co-founder of Roco and member of a consortium of six leading European hubs working to galvanise and strengthen a network of nearly 200 creative business spaces, curated the third and final instalment of the forum series. The first two were hosted in Belgrade and Athens.

The three-day event, held at Sheffield Town Hall, Victoria Hall and Roco, welcomed 120 creative business leaders, commissioners and policy makers from 27 countries to discuss the impact and value of the creative industries and the future of creative hubs.

Like Roco, the creative hubs represented at the forum support creative businesses and networks to grow in their communities. Together, they brainstormed new ideas, shared knowledge and listened to talks by industry peers.

“The creative industries are a major contributor to a successful economy and vibrant culture, so it was a huge privilege to bring so many leading creative community builders to Sheffield, where we are working hard to build a thriving creative sector,” said Andrea.

“The forum was a great success and there was a tremendous drive to galvanise the impact of the network from a European policy level where we now look to influence the profile of creative hubs in the UK and for us specifically here in the Sheffield city region.

“Sheffield definitely has the potential to become a leading light as a creative city. We have a huge amount of passion and energy and many of the delegates commented on how much they enjoyed the city. I think it’s safe to say it was a very inspiring three days for all involved.

“We are now looking forward to building on this success and the next phase of Roco’s journey, working alongside creative businesses to make a positive impact in Sheffield."
