Council supports new IKEA with Town Hall jobs fair

More than 1,500 people attended an IKEA jobs fair held at Sheffield’s Town Hall on Friday, 21 October. Potential candidates heard more about the 350 jobs needed to staff the £60m new store which will open in Sheffield next summer. Sheffield City Council is working with IKEA to help boost local employment opportunities. An earlier IKEA job fair, held at The Source Academy, attracted more than 500 people. Councillor Leigh Bramall, Sheffield City Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Business and Economy, said: “IKEA is creating hundreds of jobs in Sheffield. We want to help local people get them and make them aware of the opportunities. We’ve been working closely with IKEA, local community groups and partners to do this.” Sheffield City Council works with major developers and contractors to boost local employment opportunities. IKEA will start recruiting later this year with all positions advertised on www.IKEA.co.uk Roles will be available in logistics, warehousing, customer service, sales, interior design and food.
