Kitlocker.com celebrates 10 Years with move to bigger premises
28 May 2015
Award-winning Sheffield sports retailer, Kitlocker.com will be moving to new larger premises on Burton Road, Neepsend in June.
The business has gone from strength to strength since it was set up in 2005 by Sheffield Hallam University graduates Tom Ward and Mike Kent. Since moving to their current premises on Allen Street, Shalesmoor in 2010 the business has more than tripled in turnover.
Mike Kent, co-owner of Kitlocker.com, says; “During my 2nd year at Hallam, I decided to write a business plan with our ideas for setting up Kitlocker.com, and once we had graduated, we both decided to take the plunge. We started by working from the upstairs spare bedroom of our old volleyball coach’s house. But business really took off and we were soon looking for our own space.”
Ten years on, which included moving premises 4 times due to growth, and setting up over 100 e-commerce web-stores, Kitlocker.com is well established within the grassroots football market and the university sportswear sector. Customers include University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University as well as Glasgow, Oxford and Cambridge universities. Over the past 18 months the company has also supplied notable clients including The BNY Mellon Boat Race, The Football Association, McDonalds, Budweiser, HSBC, Mars and Carlsberg.
Tom Ward, co-owner of Kitlocker.com, says; “It’s been an amazing ten years so far. We’re very much looking forward to moving to Burton Road. We will have a much larger warehouse and production capacity as well as increased office space to accommodate new sales and customer support staff.”
Mike Kent, concludes; “This move represents quite a significant step for Kitlocker.com, we have built up some great relationships both locally and nationally, and have incredible pride in our Sheffield heritage. The new set up in Neepsend will provide us with a great base to really kick the business on, creating new jobs and increasing market share. Overall, it’s exciting times ahead!”
