The UK's first Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District

Innovation Districts are physically and technically connected hubs of innovation where research institutions and companies collocate and collaborate with entrepreneurs, business start-ups and incubators. These districts offer a range of choices in housing, works spaces and amenities in an environment that encourage open-innovation.

The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District (AMID) is developing the region’s established strength for manufacturing and engineering into an international centre of advanced manufacturing for the 21st century. AMID is accelerating the delivery of new technologies and creating excellent opportunities for trade and investment. The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) is at the heart of AMID’s innovation strength and expansion of the AMRC’s high-tech research facilities around Factory 2050 is continuing to attract an ever growing cluster of world leading manufacturers.

AMID is home to many of the world’s leading manufacturers who sell into global supply chains in aerospace, defence, transportation, nuclear, oil, gas and healthcare. These blue-chip companies include including Boeing, McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Arconic, Tata specialist steels , Outokumpu and Forgemasters.

Over a decade of development has seen expansion of the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) and Sheffield Business Park, now combined to form a 200 acre Research campus. The campus sits at the heart of the 2,000 acre Innovation District that connects our centres of research excellence with our technical and manufacturing activity in the Lower Don Valley and along the corridors linking Sheffield and Rotherham.

A unique combination of cutting edge scientific and innovative capability, aligned with local industrial capacity to design, engineer and make precision materials, products and processes, makes AMID the go-to place for leading manufacturers. Partnerships between the public and private sector and Sheffield’s two leading universities are helping realise ambitious plans to build on these strengths and create a dynamic Innovation District; a great place to live, work and do business that draws in talent, entrepreneurs, innovators and investors.
